sustainability pledge

  • June Films is a community of filmmakers based on the land of the Coast Salish people and the many tribes that make up the Pacific Northwest. We honor and respect the tradition of the First Peoples and use the wisdom of our ancestors to guide us, teach us and help all humanity thrive.

We are storytellers to share our history and knowledge.

In step with this acknowledgement, we work to sit in community with our descendants of the first people to share their stories and preserve their history.

  • At June Films, we recognize the environmental impact of film and photo production and are committed to minimizing our footprint in all aspects of our work. As a Seattle-based studio rooted in the Pacific Northwest, we are deeply connected to the natural environment and understand our responsibility to be a steward of the community.

We actively implement low-waste and energy-conscious practices on set—reducing single-use materials, minimizing transportation needs through local crew hires, and prioritizing digital workflows to avoid unnecessary printing. Whenever possible, we use rechargeable batteries, energy-efficient LED lighting, compostable, reusable or recyclable set materials. We also partner with eco-conscious vendors and encourage carpooling, public transit, and remote collaboration to limit emissions.

  • Sustainability in the community also means being sustainable in authentic relationships within the community. We build relationships with our community partners, support other filmmakers, and share responsibility for uplifting the voices of the global majority. It is not our intention to exploit our crew or interview subjects. We are committed to honoring reasonable work hours, providing adequate rest periods, and ensuring respectful communication.

Our approach to production is thoughtful and intentional, balancing creativity with sustainability. From pre-production through post-production, we work to ensure our processes reflect not only technical excellence but also environmental responsibility. As a mission-driven, BIPOC, and female-led studio, we see sustainability as integral to our broader values of equity, accountability, and community care.

  • For filmmakers of the global majority, we offer a space to learn and thriv. We want to foster the development and talent of our community and amplify others in their work to tell their story, share their talent and build community.
